Warner Bros. Pictures has finally released the first trailer for the upcoming movie, which is based on Dr. Seuss’s classic children’s book. After buying the rights more than seven years ago, the studio is now ready to bring the beloved cat back, with a twist. The new film will hit theaters on March 6, 2026.
A Bigger, Brighter Adventure
The original book, first published in 1957, told the story of two bored kids stuck at home on a rainy day when a mischievous talking cat in a striped hat shows up and causes a mess, only to clean it all up before their mom returns. This new version expands that story in a big way.
In the trailer, we see Hader’s Cat travel across the globe on a magical mission to cheer up kids and spread joy. His biggest challenge? Two sad siblings who are struggling after moving to a new town. With the help of his wild red trunk and trusty helpers—Thing One and Thing Two—the Cat sets out to show them how fun and colorful life can be.
A Strong Creative Team
This isn’t the Cat’s first trip to the movies. Back in 2003, a live-action version starring Mike Myers became infamous for its over-the-top style. This time, Warner Bros. is aiming for a fresh start with Erica Rivinoja (Borat Subsequent Moviefilm) and Alessandro Carloni (Kung Fu Panda 3) writing and co-directing the film.

Another big project already in the works is Oh, the Places You’ll Go, directed by Jon M. Chu (Wicked). It’s expected to arrive in 2028, with J.J. Abrams also producing.
