Last Scare for the Warrens? The Conjuring: Last Rites Trailer Raises the Stakes

The Final Scare: The Conjuring: Last Rites Brings Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson’s Last Haunting

The end has finally come for one of horror’s biggest movie franchises. The Conjuring: Last Rites will be the final film to feature Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson as real-life ghost hunters Lorraine and Ed Warren — and the brand-new trailer just dropped!

After more than 10 years, and several scary movies that expanded into spin-offs like Annabelle and The Nun, it’s an emotional goodbye for fans of the Warrens. But director Michael Chaves (The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It) is back to give them one last haunting adventure when Last Rites hits theaters on September 5, 2025.

What’s This Final Chapter About?

In Last Rites, the Warrens travel to a quiet town in West Pittston, Pennsylvania. There, they meet the Smurl family, who believe a demon has taken over their house. The case became famous in the 1980s, drawing attention from all over — including Jason Miller, known for The Exorcist, who even visited the haunted home.

As always, the Warrens must uncover the truth behind the haunting and help the terrified family fight back against evil. But with this being their last film, the stakes are higher than ever.

What Happens Next for The Conjuring Universe?

Although this is the end for Farmiga and Wilson in their famous roles, it’s not the end for The Conjuring Universe. Warner Bros. is still working on new ways to keep the horror world alive. In fact, an upcoming Conjuring series is in development for HBO Max.

While the show is still in early stages, rumors suggest it could focus on a younger Ed and Lorraine Warren. That could mean the series may finally dive deep into the famous Amityville haunting — a case briefly mentioned in earlier films and teased again in this new trailer.

The new trailer even shows a younger version of the Warrens on their first case, possibly setting up the next generation of stories.
