My Melody & Kuromi Stop-Motion Series Coming to Netflix This July

Sanrio fans, get ready! Two of the brand’s most loved characters, My Melody and Kuromi, are joining forces in a brand-new stop-motion animated series on Netflix, premiering July 24, 2025.

This year marks a big celebration—My Melody turns 50 and Kuromi turns 20—and what better way to honor them than with a cute, magical adventure? The series, titled My Melody & Kuromi, tells the story of two rivals who must put their differences aside to save the world of Mariland.

The trailer shows just how different they are:

  • My Melody runs a cheerful, always-busy candy shop.
  • Kuromi runs a Japanese sweets shop across the river… but no one really visits.

At first, Kuromi wants to defeat My Melody out of jealousy. But when a magical heart causes chaos, My Melody needs Kuromi’s help to fix things—leading to a story full of action, emotion, and teamwork.

The show has 12 short episodes, each about 13 minutes, making it a perfect weekend watch for fans old and new. Even if you don’t know much about Sanrio, this series is easy to enjoy.

The theme song, called “Kawaii”, is performed by global K-pop stars LE SSERAFIM. The story was written by Shuko Nemoto, who created it during the pandemic. She shared that the series is full of love and hopes that viewers of all ages will find special moments they enjoy.

The series is directed by Tomoki Misato, known for Pui Pui Molcar. He promises the animation “pushes the limits of stop-motion,” making the visuals something truly special to look forward to.

So, whether you’re a lifelong Sanrio fan or just love charming, creative shows, My Melody & Kuromi is one series you won’t want to miss!
